Lakeland Regional Health offers a variety of community education programs, support groups, classes and seminars designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve.

Classes for New Parents

Dates: Select Weeknights and Saturdays
Class Duration: 2 1/2 hours
Price: $15 (includes breastfeeding book)

For expectant mothers who are considering breastfeeding a newborn. Learn the breastfeeding techniques you need to provide the best nutrition for your baby. Partners or support persons are encouraged to attend. The class is held on select weeknights from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Call 863.687.1100 ext. 2097 for more information or register online.

Price: $15 per couple (includes book about newborn care and parenting)

For expectant parents who are seeking to learn more about caring for a new baby during the first few months of life. Topics covered include preparing for your new baby, care at birth, newborn appearance, baby communication, feeding your newborn, keeping baby safe, growth and development, signs of illness, when to call a care provider, and how to adjust to becoming a family. Additionally, we provide hands-on practice for infant bathing, diapering, cord care, dressing, swaddling and burping. You will also be given a tour of the delivery area and a book. Class Duration: 9 am – 5 pm (lunch on your own from 12 pm - 1 pm)
Price: $55 per couple (includes interactive book)

This childbirth class for pregnant women and their partners focuses on the labor and delivery process. Participants learn about signs of labor, what to expect during delivery, breathing and relaxation techniques, comfort and pain management, the role of the support person, and post-partum care. The class also includes a tour of the Labor & Delivery and Mother Baby units and a book to take home for reference. Call 863.687.1100 ext. 2097 for more information or register online.

Wellness and Caring for Conditions Classes

Date: The 2nd Tuesday of Every Month
Time: 2 pm – 4 pm
Location: Class is located in the Administrative Conference Room at the Hollis Cancer Center, 3525 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33805.
 
HeartSmarts: Whether your goal is to decrease your risk for heart disease, to live well with existing heart disease, or just to better understand it, this class will provide the basic information you need. Topics include risk factors, nutrition, exercise and symptom management.

Citizen CPR, Inc., provides a variety of infant, child and adult CPR classes, as well as first aid and baby/child safety classes. Recommended for all parents, grandparents, baby-sitters and child care providers. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or need a refresher, LRH’s diabetes self-management class helps people to understand and care for yourself as a diabetes patient, so you can feel your best and prevent future complications. The program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association. Many insurance plans cover the class fee, so check with your carrier. Day and night classes are available. Help given by an immediate responder can often make the difference between life and death. The Bleeding Control (B-Con) Basics Course is designed for those who have little or no medical training, but who may be called upon to provide initial trauma care and bleeding control prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

This two-hour program is instructed by highly trained and experienced Trauma providers from Lakeland Regional Health. All materials will be provided upon course arrival at no cost.

The free Tools to Quit Program is held once a month from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at the Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center, 3525 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33805. Please enter the Hollis Cancer Center through the doors at entrance A, and someone will be there to direct you.

This course is presented in partnership with Central Florida Area Health Education Center and the Florida Department of Health. This course covers all forms of tobacco. This class is designed to inform patients and their families about what to expect when considering elective total joint replacement surgery, from pre-operative preparation to post-hospital recuperation. The class is led by an interdisciplinary team of physical therapists, social services and orthopedic nurses.
