PRESS RELEASE — Lakeland Regional Health Director Finalist for International Award

robert_royLakeland, FL — Robert Roy, MSN, CCRN, CNML, Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line at Lakeland Regional Health, was honored as one of nine international finalists for Gallup Manager of the Year on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, during the 2015 Gallup Workplace Summit in Omaha, Nebraska.

Roy, recently promoted to his current position, joined Lakeland Regional Health in 2012 as Manager of Invasive and Noninvasive Cardiology services. In that capacity, Roy was responsible for a team of about 60 highly skilled registered nurses and catheterization lab technologists.

“Rob has been instrumental in increasing staff engagement as well as improving operations,” said Janet Fansler, DNP, RN, CENP, Lakeland Regional Health Executive Vice President and Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nurse Executive. “He is a respected leader among his peers and his team members. We are thrilled to have him on our Management Team.”

To be a finalist, managers must demonstrate high levels of engagement for their teams, high team retention, and high team performance. In the first year of Roy’s leadership, certification levels soared to 60% of eligible staff, compared to the prior year, when certifications levels were below 30%. In addition, physician satisfaction scores rose under Roy’s guidance.

“We are excited to have one of our leaders recognized for fostering a culture of relationships and caring that results in a nurturing, engaging and productive workplace,” said Amy Barry, MBA, Lakeland Regional Health Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.

Roy and eight other prestigious nominees from around the world were Manager of the Year finalists: Robert Shaffer of Fifth Third Bancorp, Karen Jenkins of Adena Health System, Liming Nie of China Merchants Property Development, Jose Carrasco of Compassion International, Julie Akita of Hawaii Pacific Health, Tony Moutinho of Stryker, Eduard Guntoro Purba of Bank Central Asia and Tim O’Toole of Bon Secours Health System, who took the top honor.

Roy earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (now Adventist University of Health Sciences) and a master’s degree in nursing from Walden University. He is certified in Critical Care Nursing, is a Certified Nurse Manager and Leader, and is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society.

“I was honored to be nominated by Lakeland Regional Health for Manager of the Year and even more pleased to be one of the final nine nominees in the world,” said Roy. “I work with a wonderful team that is responsive to feedback and change and creates an environment where we inspire each other to improve and grow.”

Gallup chose Lakeland Regional Health in 2014 and 2015 as one of just 40 or less organizations worldwide to receive its Great Workplace Award. The Gallup Great Workplace Award recognizes organizations for their extraordinary ability to create an engaged workplace culture that drives business outcomes.
