Radiation Oncology Program Earns Prestigious Accreditation Through 2024

Lakeland, FL – Lakeland Regional Health is pleased to announce its Radiation Oncology program has become one of only three programs in Florida accredited by the American Society for Radiation Oncology Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx). This accreditation, effective through 2024, validates a program’s excellence in delivering high-quality patient care. “Our Hollis Cancer Center continues to redefine and uplift the standards of cancer care,” said Timothy Dench, Director of Lakeland Regional Health Hollis Cancer Center. “Our Radiation Oncology team works diligently to provide hope and healing to our cancer patients, and we are thrilled to earn this national recognition as a testament to our exceptional patient-centered care.” “ASTRO commends the Hollis Cancer Center for achieving APEx accreditation. By undergoing this comprehensive review, the facility demonstrated a strong commitment to deliver safe, high-quality radiation oncology services to their patients,” said Theodore L. DeWeese, MD, FASTRO, Chair of the ASTRO Board of Directors. Accreditation through APEx is a voluntary and rigorous multi-step process during which a facility’s practices are evaluated using consensus-based standards. Hollis Cancer Center demonstrated its safety and quality processes and adherence to patient-centered care by promoting effective communication, coordinated treatments and strong patient engagement. The process includes an on-site facility review by a radiation oncologist and a medical physicist.

Among the state-of-the-art radiation services offered at the Hollis Cancer Center are:

  • External Beam 3D Radiation Therapy
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgery
  • Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy
  • Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation
  • Brachytherapy
  • Radiopharmaceuticals
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy

In addition to the APEx accreditation, Hollis Cancer Center’s breast program is nationally accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, one of only 24 oncology programs in Florida with this designation. The Hollis Cancer Center holds top-tier Gold Status Accreditation from the Commission on Cancer, and we are one of 32 hospitals and health systems in Florida designated
as a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence.
