Lakeland Regional Health Adopts Epic MyChart for its Physician Offices

Lakeland – The Lakeland Regional Health Physician Group launched Epic, its new electronic health record (EHR) system, on February 1, 2022. This system, which includes the MyChart patient portal, will improve efficiency and allow patients of its physician practices to have a more individualized interaction with their health information.

“With the Epic EHR and the MyChart patient portal, patients will have better access to their information and will be better able to connect and share information, schedule appointments, request refills, pay bills and communicate with their healthcare teams,” said Sarah Bhagat, Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Lakeland Regional Health and LRH Physician Group Ambulatory Operations and Organizational Effectiveness. “Our providers will also experience improvements in the quality and efficiency of patient care management with a wide range of support tools.”

Lakeland Regional Health’s administration, physician leadership, ambulatory team members and information technology teams have been collaborating and training for months in preparation for the Epic implementation.

Among the positive benefits of this change is the increased interoperability it provides with other local organizations that also use Epic. “This means that along with the many other benefits that patients receive, they can also access patient records across primary care, specialties, neighboring institutions, and even national organizations. This will positively impact patient care provided by Lakeland Regional Health,” said Ana Kalman, Lakeland Regional Health Vice President, Chief Information Officer/Chief Applications Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. “Our commitment to provide the best clinical experiences to our patients combined with Epic’s expertise in patient health information management will help us deliver safe, collaborative patient care across a larger spectrum.”

Epic Systems was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Verona, Wisconsin. Its software is used in a variety of healthcare settings. More than 250 million individuals worldwide have a medical record with Epic and more than 100 million patients in the United States manage their care with Epic’s MyChart
