Lakeland, FL – Beginning June 15, 2018, all children and teens needing emergency care will be seen in the new Children’s Emergency Department at Lakeland Regional Health’s Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children on the Medical Center Campus. Care at the main Emergency Department off of Parkview Place will be for adults ages 18 and older only.
Those ages 17 and younger should be taken to the new Children’s Emergency Department, with its own dedicated entrance accessible by Lakeland Hills Boulevard, US Highway 98 North or Parkview Place. Families with children and teens in stable condition who do visit the main Emergency Department will be assisted and redirected or transported to the Children’s Emergency Department. Emergency and medical transport services are advised of the location change.
The new Children’s Emergency Department delivers the same award-winning care that continues to garner Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center national and international recognition for its efficiency, but it does so in an environment that is mindfully designed to be thoroughly child- and family-friendly.
The state-of-the-art waiting area provides interactive gaming stations and activities to reduce children’s anxiety about their injury or illness. Physicians are specially trained in Emergency Medicine, and all nurses have extensive experience in emergency care and children’s care. The new unit expanded to allow for personalized care of 33 young patients, and leading-edge imaging services are conveniently located in the same department.
Lakeland Regional Health’s Emergency Department quality improvement efforts earned a 2014 Genesis Cup Award in 2014 and Florida Hospital Association’s 2014 award for Innovation of the Year in Patient Care. A two-year ED improvement project was documented in the prestigious Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety in November 2017.
Starting June 16, women in labor receive care at our new Labor & Delivery Unit at the Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children on the south side of the Medical Center Campus. Women and their families are welcome to park in the D-E Garage or surrounding lots and then come to the security desk near the Children’s and OB Emergency Departments, where they will be directed to the third floor for Labor & Delivery care.

Parking for the Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children is available in convenient surface parking lots and a six-level parking garage (D-E Garage) connected by a walkway.
