PRESS RELEASE: Lakeland Regional Health Breaks Ground for Cancer Center Expansion

Lakeland, FL –Lakeland Regional Health broke ground today on its Cancer Center expansion and renovation. A total of 34,500 square feet is included in the project: 21,800 square feet of new structure and 12,700 square feet of renovated existing structure. It is expected to be completed by January 2016.

“Our chemotherapy patient visits have more than doubled and our treatment volumes for radiation therapy patients have increased by more than 30% from 2011 to 2014,” said Graham F. Greene, MD, FACS, FRCS, Chief Academic Officer and Executive Director, Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center. “This expansion offers a unique experience for our cancer patients and provides our team and community with areas for education and discovery.”

The enhancements to the Cancer Center include:

  • 40 new chemotherapy stations thoughtfully designed to provide patients with lake views and care team visual contact (this is an increase of 17 chairs)
  • Pharmacy expansion
  • State-of-the-art education and meeting space for community outreach and education
  • Additional, more convenient parking
  • Facility entry for stretchers and roadway access for ambulance/transport vehicles
  • Chapel

One important factor playing a crucial role in the success of Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center is its involvement in clinical research. Currently, the Cancer Center is participating in 38 clinical trials and its research over the years has helped to bring 50 FDA-approved chemotherapy and biologic medications to the marketplace.

The Cancer Center has been accredited by the Commission on Cancer for the last 25 years. This accreditation assures patients and families that they will have access to cutting edge diagnostics, advanced treatment, genetic assessment, robust clinical research, and other superior patient care services.
