Lakeland, FL – Lakeland Regional Health Foundation is pleased to announce receipt of a significant gift from the Harrell Family, designated for the Jack and Tina Harrell Institute for Advanced Cardiovascular Medicine.

The members of the Harrell family are longtime residents and business and civic leaders of Lakeland. Jack Harrell, Sr., and Jack Harrell, Jr., both served as Chairmen of the Lakeland Regional Medical Center/Lakeland Regional Health System Board of Directors, where Jack Harrell, Jr., presently serves as a Director.
Jack Harrell, Jr., received his education from Georgia Southern College. His community involvement and leadership roles include serving on the advisory boards for the Salvation Army, Youth for Christ, and Parker Street Ministries. He is also a member of the Florida Council of 100. In addition, Jack Harrell, Jr., is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Harrell’s, LLC, a leader in the green industry and the premier producer of quality custom blended fertilizers and distributor of chemicals and grass seed for the golf course, sports turf, lawn care and horticulture industries.

The Jack and Tina Harrell Institute for Advanced Cardiovascular Medicine will encompass life-saving cardiovascular healthcare services offered through three established Centers of Excellence and three future Centers of Excellence formed to provide the most advanced therapies and care possible to patients and families. The six Centers of Excellence are:
- Harrell Heart Center – offering Heart Rhythm, Interventional Cardiology, Heart Valve, Structural Heart, Cardiovascular Surgery and Thoracic Surgery Programs providing groundbreaking, less-invasive heart procedures.
- Chest Pain Center – accredited by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care for using the most robust protocols and evidence-based science to systematically and effectively reduce treatment times for patients in the critical early stages of a heart attack.
- Comprehensive Stroke Center – accredited by the Agency for Health Care Administration for the ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases, and home to Polk County’s only Biplanar Neurointerventional Suite to ensure optimum outcomes, shorter recovery times, and less pain and complications.
- Center for Personalized and Preventative Cardiovascular Health – this future Center of Excellence will use personalized treatment and precision medicine to improve outcomes and enhance quality of care.
- Heart Failure Center – this future Center of Excellence is dedicated to providing innovative treatments, optimizing health and improving quality of life for patients affected by heart failure.
- Women’s Heart Disease Center – women often experience symptoms for heart disease different than those experienced by men. This future Center of Excellence will use evidence-based evaluation and personalized medicine to provide preventive care and treatment options and access to research and innovative programs focused on women’s heart health.
Lakeland Regional Health’s more than 30 years of experience providing advanced cardiovascular care is unmatched in Polk County. Lakeland Regional Health is home to Polk County’s only Hybrid Operating Rooms and Hybrid Catheterization Lab and was the first in the County to offer leading advances in treatment like the MitraClip®, WATCHMAN™ and Amulet devices. Its physicians have successfully performed more than 700 atrial fibrillation ablations and have inserted thousands of pacemakers. The Chest Pain Center is at the forefront of coordinating the timeliest acute heart attack care possible with Polk County’s Emergency Management Services. It consistently treats patients in 40 to 45 minutes, half the Society for Cardiovascular Patient Care’s national benchmark of 90 minutes or less.
The Harrell Family previously named the Jack and Tina Harrell Family Courtyard of the Bannasch Institute for Advanced Rehabilitation Medicine, providing a beautifully landscaped rehabilitation space for patients and families to enjoy time in nature while practicing mobility.
