Lakeland, FL – Lakeland Regional Health is pleased to announce that patients and families will begin receiving care at the Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children on Friday, June 15, 2018. The 350,000 square foot Pavilion is the largest expansion to date on the Medical Center Campus.

Approximately 3,000 babies are born each year at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center, with nearly 300 of those receiving care in the current Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The eight-story building is home to:
- 33-bed Children’s Emergency Department, with a dedicated entrance for medical transport and families. This increases the number of LRH Children’s Emergency Department beds by nearly 50%.
- 17 private suites for labor and delivery
- 32 spacious suites where both parents can stay overnight with their new child
- 4 C-section and gynecology surgical suites
- Polk County’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, with 30 private rooms. Level III is the highest NICU designation in Florida, providing babies who are critically ill or weighing 1,000 grams or less with advanced care. Previously, families needing this level of care had to leave Polk County.
- Pediatric surgical services for procedures such as appendectomies and hernia repairs
- Pediatric floor with 30 private rooms, including 12 Pediatric Intensive Care private rooms. Each room features space for family members to comfortably stay overnight.
- Pediatric playroom with activities, music and safe play zones
- Nemours Children’s Health System pediatric specialty care
- Compassionate and highly skilled outpatient obstetric care offered at both the Grasslands Campus and the Pavilion, providing convenience for women who need immediate care or procedures.
- Center for Fetal Care offers moms facing high-risk pregnancies leading-edge maternal-fetal and perinatal care before, during and after birth.
- Guest amenities including WIP Café, gift shop and chapel
- State-of-the-art 200-seat auditorium and two adjacent conference rooms for community and team education.
Other noteworthy patient experiences include:
- Certified inpatient and outpatient lactation consultants
- Special touches designed to ensure memorable childbirth experiences
- Adjoining rooms in NICU and Pediatric units so families with two admitted children can be together
- Child life specialist care to help hospitalized children feel more comfortable
- Customizable lighting in pediatric rooms provides children with cheer and control over their environment
- Interactive games and activities in the Children’s Emergency Department lobby
The facility addition was planned after conducting extensive community research on needed healthcare services and was designed with input from patients and families and from physicians, nurses and clinicians providing care. The project brings urgently needed, world class healthcare services to Polk County, while simultaneously providing an opportunity to reduce the number of semi-private rooms on the Medical Center Campus.
Grand opening events included a free Community Celebration on Saturday, June 2, at the Pavilion.
