Ack! So you hit the “register” button for a 5k taking place – gulp – this weekend! Do. Not. Panic.
There was a reason you signed up, so go with it. There is still time to get your mind and body in race mode.
Keep these tips in mind:
- Keep your body well-hydrated in the two days leading up to the race. that means no alcohol.
- Sleep well.
- Lay out your clothes the night before.
- Fuel up on the day of the race. Think fruit, carbs and protein, but don’t overdo it.
- Leave time to find parking and to pick up your race chip and bib.
- Don’t forget your sunscreen, sunglasses and any hat or hair clip you may want.
- Talk to your self throughout the race. Running is about 70% mental. Dig deep.
- If all else fails, you can walk really fast.
- Last but not least, don’t quit. Make small goals along the way: the cone, the lady with the stroller, the upcoming curve, the mile markers.
And before you know it, you’re passing the Finish Line. Imagine what you could have done with a little training time!
Always consult your primary care provider before starting a new exercise regimen.
