LAKELAND – We are pleased to announce that J. Scott Swygert, M.D., a Watson Clinic, LLP, hospitalist, will take on the expanded role of Chief Quality Officer and Chief Medical Information Officer for Lakeland Regional Health Systems, while continuing to oversee his clinical duties.
“I am honored to help lead LRMC’s continuing effort to provide the highest quality medical care to the people of Central Florida,” said Dr. Swygert. “We will continue developing our newly implemented electronic health record to optimize physician and staff workflow, identify at-risk patients before they have an event, and incorporate best practices in both quality and efficiency of care.”
As a hospitalist, Dr. Swygert is part of a Lakeland Regional team of physicians who treat patients from the time they are admitted at Lakeland Regional until they are discharged.
Since 2007, Dr. Swygert has served as the Medical Director of Hospitalist Services at Lakeland Regional, and in 2011 was appointed as the Chairman of Medicine. He has also assumed leadership roles on numerous committees, to include utilization review and medical records. Dr. Swygert was instrumental in Lakeland Regional’s comprehensive electronic health record implementation – leading, training and communicating with more than 400 physicians before, during and after its go-live in June of 2012.
Dr. Swygert has been a Watson Clinic hospitalist at Lakeland Regional since 1996. He completed his internship and residencies at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He graduated cum laude with his doctorate in medicine from Emory University School of Medicine and received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Florida.
“Dr. Swygert has been an integral part of our physician leadership, and we are excited he will lend his expertise in this new capacity,” said Elaine Thompson, Lakeland Regional’s President and CEO. “Not only does his experience and accomplishments at our hospital speak volumes, he also represents the strong partnership we have with Watson Clinic.”
