Lakeland, FL – Lakeland Regional Health is proud to announce it has joined with Nemours Children’s Hospital of Orlando to provide expanded pediatric specialty care to the children and adolescents in the communities it serves.

The new affiliation with Nemours will lay the groundwork to provide the patients and families served by Lakeland Regional Health with consistent access to highly specialized pediatric care from providers dedicated to our community. These specialists will offer a full range of services including consultations, examinations, testing, procedures and inpatient care for pediatric patients.

Nemours Children’s Hospital opened in October 2012 in Orlando’s Lake Nona Medical City offering advanced pediatric specialty care new to Central Florida, including two pediatric interventional radiologists and a neurologist who specializes in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders.

The agreement with Nemours also makes the extensive research and educational resources of this trusted not-for-profit organization available to pediatric care providers throughout the greater Polk County region.

Last December, Nemours Children’s Hospital was one of just nine children’s hospitals in the country to make the annual Top Hospital List from the Leapfrog Group. This elite distinction is awarded to hospitals nationwide for demonstrating excellence in hospital safety and quality.

The robust collaborative arrangement with Nemours was formed to supplement a successful and well-established pediatric care program already in place at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center which includes neonatal, hospitalist and additional pediatric care. The agreement provides for recruitment of pediatric physicians and other care team members to serve patients in the greater Lakeland area and provides for inpatient and outpatient specialty care including pediatric surgery, neurology, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, urology and intensivist services.

“Everything we do at Nemours Children’s Hospital is focused on providing the very best care for children,” said Dana Nicholson Bledsoe, President of Nemours Children’s Hospital. “We are happy to extend our expertise in caring for kids to work alongside the excellent medical staff at Lakeland Regional Health.”

Elaine C. Thompson, PhD, FACHE, Lakeland Regional Health President and CEO, said of the new relationship, “We are very excited to collaborate with Nemours, widely recognized for its longstanding commitment to improving children’s health. We are dedicated to offering our patients innovative pediatric specialty care services close to home. Our relationship with Nemours opens up a broad array of care not previously available in our community.”

The new relationship will be enhanced when the eight-story Pavilion for Women & Children opens in early 2018 on the Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center campus. The Pavilion will offer healthcare services including labor and delivery, obstetrics, newborn care, neonatal intensive care, pediatric surgery and pediatric emergency medicine.
