PRESS RELEASE — Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center Architects Win Design Award

Lakeland, FL — The architecture and design firm for Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center has earned a design award from The American Institute of Architects Orlando at its recent annual Awards for Design Excellence Banquet. HuntonBrady Architects of Orlando received the prestigious honor for its work on the Cancer Center’s expansion and renovation.

The project, currently under construction, will add 21,800 square feet to the center at 3525 Lakeland Hills Blvd.

“We are excited the design of our Cancer Center expansion project has earned such great recognition from the American Institute of Architects Orlando,” said Danielle Drummond, MS, FACHE, Lakeland Regional Health Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy and Growth Officer. “Our Cancer Center is a place of serenity, hope and healing. HuntonBrady’s design will greatly enhance this nurturing environment.”

Details of the enhancements include:

  • 40 new chemotherapy stations with lake views
  • Pharmacy expansion
  • 250 seat teaching auditorium
  • Additional parking
  • Facility entry for stretchers and roadway access for ambulance and transport vehicles
  • An inspiring chapel

The location of the new chemotherapy infusion area at Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center was selected to create a lakefront view for each patient. The chemotherapy stations are grouped in pods of six, with direct views to the lake and a beautiful expanse of old growth oak tree hammock. The challenging concept drove the design of an undulating facade that provides undisturbed views for every patient. The design of the lakeside garden and the outdoor terrace complements the architecture based on the same fluid geometries. The interior architecture transforms the patient experience through clean and bright spaces, views to nature and natural light.

The AIA design jury commended HuntonBrady for resolving an evidence-based design concept through a spatial strategy and said the connection of patients to nature was well thought out.

“We are so proud our team members are being honored by the AIA Orlando for their outstanding design,” said Chuck Cole, President of HuntonBrady Architects. “The Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center expansion has been an inspiring and gratifying project for our team.”
