Change your Life Through a Free National Diabetes Prevention Program

Friday, May 31 2013

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that as many as 1 in 3 people could have diabetes by 2050. Lakeland Regional Medical Center received a grant for those who are considered pre-diabetic to participate in the National Diabetes Prevention Program. This program has proven to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. Space for the 16-week program is limited, which also includes six monthly follow-up sessions with a trained Lifestyle Coach.

To qualify for the program, patients must:

  • Be at least 18 years old,
  • Be overweight (BMI≥24),
  • Have established risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes, OR
  • Be diagnosed with pre-diabetes within the past year or previously diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) while pregnant.

For more information on this program, please call Gwen Rogerson, MPH, BSN, RN, CDE, Lakeland Regional’s Diabetes Coordinator at 863.284.1604.
